Analysis of particles, dust, and corrosion products

It is extremely useful to know the origin of a microscopic particle, a metallic dust, an oxide, a corrosion product, or a galvanic coating. Knowing which elements make up a fiber, a fragment, a coating, a metal chip, a non-metallic material, or a mineral can help in assessing the degree of cleanliness/contamination of a sample. By means of the SEM+EDS technique, it is possible to perform elemental analyses of fibers, fragments, coatings, chips of metallic and non-metallic materials, pharmaceuticals, and minerals, as well as to evaluate corrosion phenomena through the analysis of corrosion products/oxides. Analyses of microscopic samples are possible thanks to the size of the focused beam (a few microns). It is also possible to perform elemental mapping of the components of a sample or to measure the concentration of a specific element. For more in-depth analysis, an IR analysis can be combined to define functional groups and fingerprints.
